Certification FAQ’s
-
IEFCC certification applies to executive function coaching services. It confirms that the services offered by an individual meet clearly defined professional, ethical, and neuroaffirmative standards. Certification provides assurance to clients, organisations, and commissioners regarding the quality and integrity of the work being delivered.
-
The certification applies to the services, not the individual as a person. A certificant is a professional whose executive function coaching services have been assessed and confirmed as meeting IEFCC standards. This distinction is vital because certification relates to how work is designed, delivered, and governed, rather than personal identity or status.
-
Executive function coaching is contextual and relational. Certifying services allows the IEFCC to assess real-world practice, ethical safeguards, supervision, and delivery structures, rather than relying on qualifications or titles alone. This ensures certification remains focused on public protection and service quality.ext goes here
-
No. The IEFCC is an independent certification body. Like an examination board, we assess services against published standards. Training is delivered by approved training providers, keeping teaching and certification separate to protect the integrity of the process.
-
Certification is for professionals offering executive function coaching services in education, workplace, health, or community contexts. This includes coaches, educators, therapists, psychologists, HR professionals, managers, and other professionals whose services focus on human development.
-
Applicants must have at least three years’ experience in a personal development or people-facing role, such as education, coaching, therapy, youth work, or leadership. What matters most is that the services offered align with the standards at the specific level applied for.
-
IEFCC certification is structured across four levels, reflecting the increasing scope and responsibility of services:
Level 1: Foundational executive function knowledge and support.
Level 2: Competent executive function coaching services.
Level 3: Services that include supervision of executive function coaches.
Level 4: Services that include training and assessment of coaches.
Applicants should apply only for the level that matches the services they currently provide.
-
Most applicants begin at Level 1, as the service levels build upon each other. However, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways are available where services already meet the required standards through existing structures, experience, and evidence.
-
Assessment focuses on how services are delivered in practice. This may include written assessments, case studies, reflective accounts, evidence of delivery hours, supervision arrangements, and client or organisational testimonials. All assessments are marked against published criteria by independent examiners who are Level 3 or 4 service providers.
-
No. Certification is valid for two years. Renewal confirms that the services continue to meet the standards, including requirements for supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and ethical practice.
-
Executive function coaching services often support people who are navigating stress, vulnerability, or significant transitions. Supervision ensures services remain reflective, ethical, and safe, maintaining the highest possible quality of service.
-
Yes. Certification applies internationally and confirms that services meet IEFCC standards wherever they are delivered, provided all ongoing requirements continue to be met.
-
IEFCC certification is not a membership or credentialing scheme. It is governed through a UK-registered certification mark, providing external oversight of how standards are applied, reviewed, and enforced. This adds an additional layer of accountability and public protection.
-
The IEFCC has clear processes for review, support, and, where necessary, the removal of certification. The purpose is to protect the public and uphold service quality. Concerns are handled transparently and proportionately through a formal appeals process.
-
Yes. Organisations can specifically request IEFCC-certified executive function coaching services when commissioning support, using the certification as a clear and consistent quality benchmark.
-
Most applications are made through an approved training provider, as certification requires both supervision and continuing professional development. In cases where Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applies, applications may be made directly to the IEFCC, with supervision and CPD arranged separately where appropriate.
